These aftermarketmain caps will strengthen notonly factory 2 bolt blocks,but also 4 bolts. Unlike thefactory main caps, these notonly have more crosssectional strength, but thereal strength secret is inthe angled side bolts!
The sidebolts are angled so they pullfrom the side walls of theblock and not the flimsy mainweb area. A bolt that isangled will require a massiveamount of additional load toflex or stretch, let alonebreak, compared to aconventional straight upbolt. The side bolts heavilyload the main cap against theregister step which stops"cap walk". It is main capwalk that causes a greatamount of unforeseen bearingdamage and horsepower loss.
Milodon main caps areprecision machined from highstrength ductile materialwhich has the proper balanceof strength yet is not toorigid like a billet main capto allow transfer ofincreased shock loads to thecrank and bearings. In thiscase, more is not better whenit comes to hardness.
Only .030"of material removal isrequired upon initialinstallation, which willallow 100% clean up on adamaged block. The drillbushing used to drill and tapthe side bolt holes isincluded in the kit. The sidebolts can be installed byanyone with a hand drill anda tap. If the block hassquare main registers, theblock needs only a standardalign bore to finish the job.Milling the mains is onlynecessary if the main capregisters are not square.
Allnecessary bolts, washers andthe drill bushing areincluded in the centre threemain cap kit. For maximumstrength the installation ofMilodon main studs are highlyrecommended.
