The SGI-5 Universal SignalInterface Unit can handlenearly any of your electricspeedometer signal conversionand calibration issues. TheSGI-5 can recalibrate 2,000pulse per mile (ppm) through250,000 ppm electronicspeedometer pulse rates,either up or down. The SGI-5is great for adjustingaftermarket and OEM electricspeedometers on vehiclesafter changing rear endgears, tire sizes, ordrivetrain changes affectingthe speedometer.
TheSGI-5 is used as either asignal multiplier (up to 4X)or signal divider (up to125X), making this unitextremely flexible for almostany application. While theSGI-5 is intended to correctonly the signal feeding theelectronic speedometer, inmany cases where a speedsignal is shared or on adatabus, the SGI-5 caninstead correct the signalfeeding the engine andtransmission computers.
If your vehicle is equippedwith an anti-lock brakingsystem (ABS), it is generallyadvised to ensure the signalreaching the ABS controlleris not altered to eliminateany potential problemsaffecting control algorithmswithin the system. Somevehicles also utilise theoutput shaft speed tocalculate transmission slipand lock-up. When a signalfeeding the PCM is altered,this may cause the PCM todetect a constant slip.Consulting a service manualmay be of assistance indetermining the signalrouting within the vehicle ifthe SGI-5 is decided to beused in a situation such asthis.
