Crane Cams now offers a newgeneration of precisionmachined, specially coated andprocessed steel distributorgears for popular Chevy andFord engines using either castflat faced lifter or steelroller camshafts.
Sinceroller lifter cams are madefrom either induction hardenedsteel or carburized steel,neither of these materials arecompatible with the normalstock distributor gears. Inthe past, "bronze" distributorgears were used. For streetapplications these gears canwear at a high rate and mayhave to be replaced on aregular basis.
By usingmodern heat treating andmanufacturing processes, CraneCams has developed a series ofsteel distributor gears thatare compatible with standardcast cams and inductionhardened and carburized steelroller cams. Crane Cams nowmakes it possible to use asteel distributor gear thatprovides OEM-style life-span,eliminating the need tofrequently replace bronzealloy gears. These Crane steelgears are available for mostChevrolet and Ford engines forboth stock and aftermarketdistributors.
The use ofthese gears on camshafts thathave been previously run withother types or materials ofgears, or the unnecessary useof high volume/high pressureoil pumps, can be severelydetrimental to the life of thecamshaft gear
